The design of a prototype foaming jig
Our team was assigned to design, prepare and test a low-cost prototype foaming jig that can be quickly produced.
In case of a prototype beverage cooler cabinet the form may change, therefore, there is no point producing an expensive aluminium supporting core and foaming jig at first.
We have designed a prototype consisting of worked and precisely connecting wooden elements and an exterior, welded and bolted steel frame. We supported the design process with finite element stress analyses, because the tool had to withstand a 2 bar inner pressure.

The challange:
A heavy duty, but simple design, inexpensive tool.

Our Solution:
A wooden, machined, glued and screwed construction, reinforced at the adequate points both on the outside and the inside, and the insertion of a ‘flying’ insert at the undercut area.
